Joe, I just briefly looked a at the website for Transitions. It seem mostly about weight loss. How does it help the person who just want to better control blood sugar levels with the glycemic index but doesn't need to lose weight?

The New Way Network Show

We are experimenting with various video-players here, however the obvious point of this is the fact that you no longer wait for "the box" to see what's happening in the martial arts world -or to learn new things. You don't have to search through dozens of dvd's for the info you want, you simply search a topic. This is, of course, The New Way.

PLAN AHEAD! - Start Preparing for Summer Promotion

The counter, below, is an example of a free Internet-based tool you can use in any number of ways on your own site. My recommendation would be to use it for black belt testing --as this should be the most important long-term and "watched" event in your school.
This particular counter is reminding you that you should be planning for your summer, NOW. What you do now will start to determine what kind of income your school will generate this summer. Plant the seeds now.

Lessons From Our Youth!

Right now, my karate school is busy with many community projects going on. We just completed a kick-a-thon for Diabetes and we have been hosting a canned food drive this past month for Harvest Hope Food Bank, one of the largest food banks in Columbia that feeds the poor.

This past weekend, I hosted a birthday party for one of my 6 year old students, whose name is Sam and I was BLOWN AWAY by his act of kindness.… Continue

I'm Writing a New Children's Curriculum, THE EMPTY CUP CURRICULUM, for New Way Members. You Can Participate!

The Empty Cup Curriculum, a new curriculum which will integrate modern-media into the teaching process, is being built/constructed as we speak (by Your's Truly -and I'm asking for your input!). This New Way only, all the way. Oh, by the way, see the "Empty Cup" illustration? That's the work of illustrators Aimee and Josh Ray of Dreamfollow.com and StingRaygw… Continue

Revolution in Methods, Ideas, Intent, and Practice

How about REAL Master Instructor Training? Classes on domestic violence, reality-based self-defense, drug abuse, first aid, nutrition, health issues, injury-prevention, and anatomy and physiology? How about an industry that's not built upon "mass" anything, but upon compassion, community involvement, and relevant for-today education? How about we forget the Rolex… Continue

You Know, of Course, That I Endorse a Buy Nothing Christmas

Call me crazy, but my martial arts journey has brought me to this place where I'm acutely aware of what I consume and how insane it is to always need more, more, more. As a master teacher it is part of my "platform" (for lack of a better word), to address self-defense and consumerism and plastic waste and being on the rat-wheel of buy/spend, buy/spend/want/buy/spend, e… Continue

"Make A Blanket" Event

Last year, I began coordinating a blanket drive to support Project Linus, an organization whose mission is "to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer 'blanketeers'."

I had pur… Continue

Holiday Gift Certificates, Some Thoughts on Them from Tom Callos

If you're going to give out or sell gift certificates for the holidays, I would suggest you decide what you want to accomplish. Here are some notes and suggestions from Tom Callos:

First, are you going to give these out as "gifts" to your community? Will they be distributed by students and/or by other methods?

Are you going to sell them to them to recover the… Continue
